NASN often receives requests to contact NASN members for research purposes. While NASN does not release the names or personal information of NASN members, NASN does offer options for researchers wanting to reach NASN members with Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved surveys.
Please review and follow information/guidelines below prior to submitting research mailing requests to NASN. NASN will respond to requests after a review process.
For market or product research, please contact INFOCUS, NASN's mailing list rental partner.
Reaching NASN Members via Email Sent by NASN
Research that addresses NASN’s research priorities is eligible to be sent via email by NASN to members who have opted to participate in research. The return rate varies on the survey and interest to school nurses.
NASN will send the email on behalf of the researcher through the NASN membership database. The database can sort the membership list to include or eliminate specific categories. Examples of these categories include:
- All members;
- Members in a specific state;
- Members in a specific sub-group; or
- A random sample.
No survey requests are permitted in the online community discussions via NASN's online community website SchoolNurseNet.
Reaching NASN Members via NASN's eNewsletter
Research that does not address NASN's research priorities but that is pertinent to school nurses/student health is eligible to be included in the NASN Weekly Digest.
No survey requests are permitted in the online community discussions via NASN's online community website SchoolNurseNet.
Guidelines
Individuals interested in having research shared with NASN members must comply with the following.
Please note that NASN often has a waiting list of requests. NASN has a quota each semester of the number of surveys an NASN member may receive. NASN does not send surveys in the summer because school nurses often do not check their work emails when schools are closed.
- Before consideration, applicants must complete the NASN Membership Outreach Request Form for Research and send it with a non-refundable $25.00 processing fee to NASN (Attention: Director of Research). Research requests should be scientifically sound and ethically appropriate before being submitted.
- Upon receipt of the NASN Membership Outreach Request Form for Research, NASN will begin processing the form within 7-10 business days. Once the process begins it may take up to 3 weeks for review. Please plan accordingly. The process includes the NASN research committee reviewing the design and survey tool for scientific rigor and appropriateness for school nurses, and determing if it fits an NASN priority and/or is pertinent to school nursing/student health.
- Upon approval of the NASN Membership Outreach Request Form for Research, NASN will send the applicant a the NASN Outreach for Research Purposes Order Form, which must be completed and returned with the required payment (see fee schedule below).
- Upon receipt of the completed Order Form and payment, NASN will share the research email or link with NASN members.
- After the data analysis of the research is complete, the applicant is asked to share the results with NASN.
- The researcher must acknowledge the NASN membership as a data source in any publications developed from the survey.
