Statement of View: School nurses are the link to health and wellness of our students for successful learning and growing. The pandemic has brought to light the work of the school nurse and being recognized as a vital member of the school and the community. School nurses are now in a position to continue to advocate for the profession and the importance of having a school nurse in every school, every day, and all day.
The profession of school nursing must have school nurse leaders to promote the profession to other nursing colleagues and to mentor new school nurses. Let us find the voice of those who are retiring as well as those that have school nurse experience and the passion to promote the profession of school nursing. They know what the value of a school nurse brings to our children and their families as well as to those in our schools every day.
The work of the Nominating Committee is to find the voice and the successful work of school nurses able and willing to lead, advocate and promote the importance of the professional school nurse. The nation has heard and seen the work of the school nurse these past two years. School nurses have proven their knowledge and nursing practice with our students to healthy and ready to learn. We now have the attention of our legislators and school administrators to have a seat at the table for all matters relating to our students for a successful education. Who do we need at this table? Who is willing to take this role to lead and advocate for all school nurses in the nation? These leaders are among us. Let us nurture and support their willingness to share their voice and expertise.
